CEES To Launch EnergyPledges.org
	            Katherine Peters; CEES Research Associate

Energy security and climate change are the two greatest environmental challenges of the 21st century. To solve these problems, countries and corporations around the world are making commitments pertaining to energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. While such commitments are the first step to solving these environmental challenges, alone they are not enough. The promises made in the commitments must be carried out before the words have any meaning. In order to gauge our progress on these issues, we need to know not only what countries and corporations have pledged to do, but also what actually gets done.
In order to bring transparency and accountability to international energy and climate pledges, CEES is creating a database of what countries and corporations say they are doing, what their pledges really mean, how well they are being implemented, and what impact they can actually have. This project began as the International Project on Energy and Climate Commitments (IPECC). (For more information on IPECC, please see CEES News Issue Three, Page 6). The project has been renamed “EnergyPledges,” reflecting its user-friendliness and accessibility. The website will be launched soon at http://energypledges.org. http://www.colorado.edu/law/eesi/News/003/Page6.htmlhttp://energypledges.orgshapeimage_5_link_0shapeimage_5_link_1
