Services & Programs
Career Counseling: Our professional staff provides individual counseling for students and alumni, critiquing resumes and cover letters, and helping students develop individual job search action plans. Each 1L is assigned a career counselor. Although students are encouraged to work with any of our counselors, the assigned counselor follows up as needed with that student for all three years of law school.
Employer Outreach: Every semester and throughout the summer, our counselors conduct extensive employer outreach in- and out-of-state. Since 2006, we have visited Boston, Boulder, Denver metro area, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Dallas, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, Greeley, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Tucson, and Washington, DC.
Career Fairs/Symposia: We provide students with numerous legal employer networking opportunities on campus. To highlight a few, each year we host the CU/DU Government & Public Interest Career Symposium in the fall and the Private Practice Symposium in the spring, both of which bring more than 50 employers to campus. We also partner with bar associations and other schools to provide outside networking and career opportunities.
On-Campus Interviews and Resume Collections: Each semester, we conduct an On-Campus Interview Program during which students may apply for summer clerkships and associate attorney positions with law firms and government agencies. Many employers who are not able to come on campus participate in our resume collection program.
Speaker Series: Attorneys from the local legal community speak to our students during weekly informational sessions about what it’s like to work in a variety of legal practice areas. These programs serve to facilitate the career decision-making process for our students and provide weekly valuable networking opportunities.
Job Postings: Through our CDOnline system, students and alumni can review web-based job listings and an online document library that contains numerous career development resources. All information is password protected and updated regularly.
Mock Interviews: In conjunction with attorneys from the Colorado Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and other volunteer attorneys, we offer a mock interview program several times a year for students to practice their interview skills and receive feedback from practicing attorneys.
