When do I register if I’m a current 3L?
Your registration time assignment is set to begin Friday, April 11 at 12:30 p.m. You may continue registering and adjusting your schedule through August.

When do I register if I’m a current 2L?
Your registration time assignment is set to begin Friday, April 11 at 12:30 p.m. You may continue registering and adjusting your schedule through August.

When do I register if I’m a current 1L?
Your registration time assignment is set to begin Friday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. There will be a “How To Register” meeting in Room 205 at noon on both Tuesday, April 8th and 15th.

Where can I find the Fall course offerings?
You may find the schedule on our website at http://www.colorado.edu/law/academics/schedules.htm. This listing allows you to view the syllabus for each class, professor information, and textbook information. You may also go directly to CUConnect and click the PLUS tab to find course information.

What is a “Stop” on my registration?
A “stop” is the university’s mechanism for preventing students from registering if, for example, they owe money for library fines; or if undergraduate transcripts have not yet been received; or if immunization records have not been received.

How can I check to see if I’m eligible to register?
Prior to registration, you should logon to PLUS, and select the “Registration” tab to see if you are eligible to register.

Are there courses for which I have priority as a current 1L?
Yes. Current 1Ls have registration priority for the following courses: Agency Partnership, Corporations, Foundations of American Natural Resource Law, Income Taxation, Payment Systems, Secured Transactions, Intersession Trial Advocacy, and Wills and Trusts.

Are there courses for which I have priority as a current 2L?
Yes. Second- and Third-year students have priority for all courses with an important exception. In designated courses, current first-year students have registration priority over second- and third-year students. These courses are: Agency Partnership, Corporations, Foundations of Natural Resources Law, Income Taxation, Payment Systems, Secured Transactions, Intersession Trial Advocacy, and Wills and Trusts.

I’m a current 2L, and when will I get to register for those courses that are set as priority for current 1Ls?
The registration restriction will be lifted on the following Friday, April 25, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. for 2Ls to register for these courses. If you try to register ahead of this time, you will get a “Classification Restriction” error message.

I’m currently registered for a year-long course. How do I register for the spring half?
The Registrar will register you into the spring portion of the course. You do not need to self-register for these courses.

For how many credits can I self-register?
You can register for 18 credits hours on your own; however, you will need to email me your requests for any credits over the18 credit hours, and I will override the system to either enroll you, or to place your name on a waitlist; however, you may not actually take more than 18 credit hours without Dean permission. From the Rules of the Law School: §3-3-3 Maximum and Minimum Class Schedule.8 No student shall receive credit toward the J.D. degree for more than eighteen credit hours in one semester. A student may register for fewer than ten credit hours in one semester of the second or third year of study. In all other regular semesters, a student shall register for at least ten credit hours unless an exception for extraordinary cause is approved by the Dean’s Office. A first-year student must obtain permission of the Dean's Office to register for fewer than the full first-year schedule of courses.

Is there a distinction between 6000-, 7000-, and 8000-level courses?
The 6000-level courses are oriented toward the second year; 7000-level toward the third year; and the 8000-series is designated as seminars.

How do I know if there are open seats in courses?
You may use “Planning Tools” on PLUS to see the number of students enrolled, the maximum seating, and the number of students on a waitlist. Follow these instructions:

  • Go to PLUS
  • Click on "Planning Tools" in the menu box that appears on the left side of your screen
  • Select "Boulder Campus Fall 2008" and click the "Go" button
  • Click the tab "Search Courses"
  • Type Laws (or just type L) in Step 1
  • Skip down to Step 6 and hit the "Start Search" button
  • This brings you to all of our courses for the semester. To see additional pages, simply hit the "Next" button at the bottom of the page
  • To view more information about courses, including course descriptions, simply click the yellow "Info" button next to the name of the course.
What are Student Opportunity Fees?
These are optional fees that you may choose to pay for many activity funds on campus. NOTE: When your registration time assignment begins, you MUST determine this before the system will allow you to begin selecting your courses. You may not enter your courses in PLUS until you have passed through this screen.

What number do I use to register for my courses – the course number or the call number?
You MUST use the 5-digit CALL NUMBER to register for courses. The 5-digit CALL NUMBER is the unique identifier for each course.

How do I place myself on a waitlist?
If you find that a course has a waitlist established, you MUST click on the “Waitlist” option, and click on the “Submit” button in order to be counted on the waitlist. If you do not select it, the system will not understand that you wish to be placed on the waitlist.

How do I know if I have been enrolled in a course in which I was waitlisted?
You may wish to periodically check your schedule on PLUS. When a position opens, an email is generated notifying you that are enrolled. Even if you do not receive an email, you should periodically check your schedule.

PLUS asks if I want to take a course Pass/Fail. Can I decide this?
No. That rule does not apply to law students.
