Services were held on December 27 at United Methodist Church in Parker, Colorado, for Jennifer Lee Shelton, a third-year law student who died unexpectedly on December 17. It was a wonderful, yet emotional, celebration of her life. Many from the law school attended and represented to Jennifer's family the love and support that is felt throughout the community. The law school held a memorial ceremony for Jennifer on January 22, an open reception that included comments by Dean Getches, Mr. Shelton, and students. In addition, Jennifer will receive her JD degree posthumously at the 2008 Commencement ceremony. "A vibrant member of our community is gone and her classmates, friends, and professors are deeply distressed," stated Dean David Getches. "We have extended are heartfelt sympathy to the Shelton family. Jenn will be sorely missed."Colorado Law students held a vigil on December 18 for Jenn. Student Bar Association vice president Shanelle Kindel coordinated the informal vigil for the students in the law school café and 50-75 students showed up to support each other. Jonathan Allen, class of ’09, said “The vigil was an opportunity for all the students to come together and share their feelings and express their shock, confusion, and great sadness.” Counselors were available at the university for those affected by Jennifer’s death.Jennifer's family has kindly designated a law school scholarship fund as one of the places people can make contributions in her memory: The Jennifer Shelton Scholarship Fund, c/o Marilyn R.
