RURAL TRAGEDY
by Alice Rose Crow

Required in-depth investigation

By experts from Anchorage, Juneau and beyond

Commissioners of Education and Health & Social Services
Scurried to Bethel, quick

On the heels of the D'ear Alaska Ear
As our rural tragedy hit the front page
(This is the subtext)

Evan Ramsey
Smiling Shooter
DFYS Commodity
Exacted a higher rent for his special needs
Bartered by a Social Worker
to the Superintendent of Schools

Proud and Publicly Gloating Mother of Yup'ik Children
Another kind of Neo-colonialism
Complete with double-dipping transfer payments
from the States General Fund

DFYS money and School Formula Funding
siphoned off to subsidize
The Shooter's foster home and transportation

A system at work to make a troubled boy
named Evan Ramsey whole
from an abusive and drunken upbringing

They've all gone away now

His victims up yonder

The Shooter to perpetual prison

The Foster Mother migrated back south

The Social Worker
No longer the wife of an out-stationed District employee
Garage sales in the city between placing other Evans.

What's left?
DFYS
The School District
A purchasing agent
reassigned to School Security
to keep our kids safe

Does anyone remember what the Commissioners said before they too went their way to speeches in some other town?
Some other Rural Tragedy?
