"Self/Restraint"

The woman here has let down her hair and assumed a more native position for her body. Yet, her physical form is both restrained and constrained. This is the first image in the set where chiaroscuro, the interplay of light and dark, becomes a central element to understanding the work. It is not clear, yet, whether the woman is her own.
