Figure 2.   Ntirandekura, 16, who is not a member of the Burundian army, poses

                 with his handmade gun in the village of Bandaga. The uniform he wears

                 and the bullets he shoots were given to him by the army.  "They have

                 told me to come register. I think I will be a soldier in days to come .... I

                 can't be afraid of dying because even if they find me at home they can

                 kill me."
