Noncredit Internships

Prejournalism Students
Prejournalism students seeking media experience are encouraged to investigate opportunities at campus media. Media internship employers often prefer students who have had experience with the Campus Press, KVCU-AM, CU Sports Magazine, a weekly campus television show, and at other campus media.

Contacts for school sponsored campus media are:
Campus Press, Amy Herdy, Amy.Herdy@Colorado.edu
KVCU-AM, Mike Flanagan, Mike.Flanagan@Colorado.edu
CU Sports Magazine, Steve Jones. Stephen.Jones@Colorado.edu

Campus media not affiliated with the school include Colorado Engineer Magazine, a publication of the CU College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Students also gain experience at the CU Athletic Media Relations office and at other media offices on campus.

Prejournalism students may also visit the CU Career Services office for a list of opportunities.

Journalism Majors
Whether or not they are seeking academic credit for an internship, journalism majors admitted to a sequence should visit the Internship and Career Office in the Student Resource Center, Armory 1b11, to look at internship listings. Some employers require that students get academic credit for internships, including nearly every commercial broadcast and cable organization.

Advertising majors are required to complete a 3-credit internship. Internship credit is not required for other SJMC majors. However, in most fields related to journalism and mass communication, it is difficult to get a job if you haven’t completed an internship or had similar experience.
