Academic Advising
Journalism Majors
The academic adviser is the students main contact for course selection and career advice once the student has been admitted to the school. Check CUConnect to learn your advisers name.
Advising
All majors must consult their faculty adviser before each registration.
Before you arrive for advising:
- Plan your schedule.
- Print a copy of your degree audit from CUConnect and bring it with you to your advising
session.
Grade Point Average Requirements
Minimum overall earned on Boulder campus: 2.25; in journalism: 2.50. Failure to meet these academic minimums will result in probation for one semester. Failure to raise an unacceptable GPA to the minimum during the probationary semester can result in suspension from the university.
Attendance
Students who do not attend any of the first week's sessions of a class may be dropped.
Internships
No more than 3 credit hours of internship credit will be counted in the major or within the 120 hours minimum.
Pass/Fail Option
No journalism, business, arts and sciences core or MAPS courses may be taken pass/fail. No more than 16 pass/fail credit hours in regular course work may be credited toward the bachelor's degree, and no more than 6 hours in any one semester may be taken pass/fail. For transfer students, the limit is 1 credit hour of pass/fail for every 8 credit hours completed at CU. Transfer students should see their adviser.
Grade Appeals Policy
Graduation
Deadline for completion of the graduation packet for May graduation is the first Monday in October. The deadline for August or December commencement is the first Monday in March.
