News-Editorial

The news-editorial major prepares students for careers as reporters, editors and writers for newspapers, news services, magazines, trade and technical publications, company publications, the government and public relations firms. The curriculum includes required courses in reporting, editing and media law as well as electives ranging from photography and magazine writing to the digital newsroom and investigative reporting. Many students begin by working for the Campus Press student newspaper. CU news-editorial majors are awarded more Colorado Press Association scholarships and internships than students from any other college or university. They compete successfully for national internships including the Pulliam Fellowship, Dow Jones Newspaper Fund, the Politics & Journalism Semester in Washington, D.C., the Association for Women in Sports Media and the Chips Quinn minority internship program. Students have recently interned at The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsday, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Reader's Digest and Washington, D.C. news bureaus.
