Newsgathering Combination Print and Broadcast

The MA combination Newsgathering Broadcast and Print option is designed for students with limited academic or professional experience in news reporting and writing. It prepares students for careers in a wide variety of professional settings including newspapers and magazines, broadcast media outlets, online publishing and corporate communications. With the addition of one to two courses, it is possible to complete both the print and broadcast sequences.

Course Requirements for Newsgathering Combination Print and Broadcast Majors
A total of 36 credit hours for print and broadcast combination is required for graduation. Combo students may chose to complete either the broadcast professional project or the print professional project.

Journalism Core Requirements (9 hours)
JOUR 5511 Newsgathering 1, fall semester
JOUR 5521 Precision Journalism, fall semester
JOUR 6651 Press and the Constitution, second fall semester

Broadcast and Print Combo Sequence Requirements (18 hours)
JOUR 5514 TV Newsgathering, fall
JOUR 5502 Newsgathering 2, second fall, spring or summer
JOUR 5344 TV Documentary, or JOUR 5512 In-Depth Reporting, or JOUR 5524 TV Investigative Reporting or,
JOUR 5624 News Team, or JOUR 5802 Magazine & Feature Writing
JOUR 5851 Professional Project – Print or Broadcast
JOUR 6661 Media Ethics or JOUR 6771 History of Mass Comm

Professional Project
