World development challenges
home > world development challenges
Governments, intergovernmental organizations (e.g. the UN) and non-governmental
organizations (e.g. Amnesty International) have used movies, radio, TV,
cable, satellites and the Internet as one component in their strategies
to address agriculture, health, education and civil society needs around
the world. Media can carry information, entertainment and education to
center-city and remote populations, be they farmers, investors, traders
or consumers. The ends to which media are deployed and to what extent
depends on national policies, media ownership, operations, financing,
technology, programming, and citizen preferences.
