Below is a list of international internships in news-editorial available
through, and sponsored by, a number of different organizations. The list
is NOT an exhaustive one. Rather, it provides a sampling
of potential internships in various areas throughout the globe outside
of the United States. The internship listings are organized first according
to region. Countries are listed alphabetically within each region. Every

General (The Overseas Press Club)
The Overseas Press Club sponsors two student internships per academic
semester - one in the autumn from September to December, one in the spring
from January through April and another during the summer months, May through
August.

Hong Kong (Syracuse University)
The internship experience allows for in-depth and practical understanding
of how business and government function in Hong Kong. Placements are available
in international and non-governmental organizations, businesses, banking
firms, and the communications industry. Previous placements have included
NBC Asia, Star TV, AT&T, the U.S. Consulate of Hong Kong, Merrill
Lynch, Amnesty International, SL+A Architecture Firm, and Calvin Klein
Asia. Students also worked with Hong Kong legislators, consulting and
law firms, and trade magazine publishers.

Mongolia (I-to-i.com)
You can join the editorial team at one of two English-language newspapers
in Ulaan Baatar or become a member of an international news agency. Volunteers
fluent in English are needed to help the full-time staff of journalists,
administrators and designers. Keep busy with the crucial editing and proofreading
of stories that cover the economy, politics, culture and sports. There
may even be opportunities to get involved with feature-writing or photojournalism,
and the experience will look great on your résumé.

Nepal (Experiential Learning Experiences)
ELI bases its journalism programs in Kathmandu in any of a variety of
English language newspapers. Because English is widely spoken by the educated,
these papers have a large circulation. Your native English skills will
be appreciated by those you work with. You may find yourself out in the
field reporting, or perhaps working at the editor's desk. If you have
graphics expertise, you may be able to incorporate this into your duties
as well.

Switzerland (Syracuse University)
This program places graduate students in international relations, and
related fields in internships with international organizations in Geneva.
The first several days of the nine-week program are devoted to an intensive
introductory course on international organizations and an orientation
to Geneva. For the next eight weeks will work in an international organization.
Geneva is home to the International Labor Organization (ILO), World Health
Organization (WHO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and many non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) that focus on international problems. Interns usually
perform tasks such as library research, editing, translating, writing
reports, designing newsletters, and computer programming. Sometime, interns
are invited to attend conferences outside of Switzerland.
