Instructor Paul Daugherty joined the faculty in fall 2005 to teach broadcast production classes. He was a producer at Rocky Mountain PBS from 1995 to 2002.  Prior to that he was a television engineer while finishing his undergraduate studies in humanities and filmmaking at the University of Colorado.  He earned a master's degree in broadcast news and management from the SJMC in 1993.  Daugherty has produced, photographed, edited, or directed numerous documentaries and public affairs shows, among them Urban Ark - The Story of the Denver Zoo, Covering Columbine, Rocky Mountain Legacy, LifeWise, Biolog, and the Emmy-winning public affairs news magazine show Colorado.Now.  His independent projects use the techniques of backpack journalism . One is a series about zoo keepers called Zoo Keeper Journal, slated for internet distribution, and was shot in Kenya, Australia and New Zealand; the documentary Jump Steak, about the issues and concerns behind the human consumption of kangaroos; and Space Class, a Web-based educational series produced in part through NASA partners, which explains the fundamentals of astronomy for middle school audiences and has been used in classrooms across the U.S.  Daugherty has also been producing videos in Hawaii to showcase Project Pisces, a research effort that studies technologies that could be used to construct habitats on the moon.   Daugherty has produced public service announcements and fundraising videos for the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.  On campus, he's been active in directing numerous productions, including the Advertising Innovators series and episodes of the student-produced series, Studio B.  He teaches Principles of Broadcast Production,  NewsTeam,  Advanced Video Editing and Advanced Camera Techniques.  Daugherty has served for 10 years on the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Heartland Chapter. He also serves on the board for Boulder Community Media, established by the City of Boulder, where he holds the position of secretary.  He is also vice-chairman for the committee on Channel 22, the educational channel operated by the Boulder Valley School District.
