Assistant Professor Deserai Anderson Crow is Associate Director of the Center for Environmental Journalism. She joined the faculty in 2008 and teaches broadcast news and media studies courses. Crow earned her PhD from Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver’s School of Public Affairs. Her research interests include environmental policy processes and the role that mass media and scientific knowledge play in policy decisions. She is particularly interested in environmental issues in the western United States. Her publications focus on the adoption of non-consumptive recreational water rights by Colorado communities and the factors that influenced policy change within these communities. She is currently working on research related to the influences of messaging and the current state of local news on our understanding and support of environmental issues. After earning her BS in Journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder, she worked as a broadcast reporter, anchor and producer in Nebraska, West Virginia, California, Colorado Springs and Denver.
