The University of Colorado School of Journalism and Mass Communication seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in journalism The successful candidate will have a strong professional background and a demonstrated commitment to an active program of research or creative work, as well as to classroom excellence. This person will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in news reporting, writing and/or production in a digital environment, and may also have the opportunity to teach courses in media theory and/or research methods. Review of applications will begin on Nov. 1 and continue until the position has been filled. Salary is competitive. Appointment will begin in August 2010.
Qualifications: Applicants must have an advanced degree in mass communication or a related field (Ph.D. preferred; MFA or MA considered), and significant professional journalism experience.
Duties: Sustaining an active program of media research or creative work; teaching two courses per semester in graduate and undergraduate programs; providing service to the school, the university and the profession.
The School has 600 undergraduates studying advertising, journalism and media studies. It offers the master's degree in professional newsgathering and in media research, and the doctorate in media studies. Faculty members at the school conduct research in a broad range of areas, including cultural studies, global media, new media, and political communication. The School also is home to two research centers the Center for Media, Religion and Culture and the Center for Environmental Journalism.
