Johanna B. Maes ('92) has been selected to participate in the National Hispana Leadership Institute's 2004 Fellowship Program. She is director of the Pre-Collegiate Development Program at CU-Boulder.

Twenty women are selected every year. According to the NHLI, Maes, who earned a News-Editorial degree at the School, was selected because of her community service record, which includes having served on the Board of Directors of Assets for Colorado Youth, on the Mayor of Denver's Commission on Youth and as a guest columnist for The Denver Post.

NHLI's leadership development program for Hispanic women in the United States was founded in 1988.

It includes one week at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and another week at the Center for Creative Leadership. Two additional weeks of training are held in California and Washington, D.C.

The program's aim is to prepare Hispanic women who have demonstrated leadership at the local level for positions of national influence and public policy impact.
