F. Paige Carlin ('51) retired in 1997 after 45 years in newspaper and magazine reporting, writing and editing, public relations and publications management. He retired from the staff of Rotary International in Evanston, Ill., where he had been publications manager. Previously he was editor and publisher of the Kearny Hub and writer, editor and manager for the United Methodist Communications agency and the United Methodist Publishing House in Evanston and Park Ridge, Ill., respectively. He also worked for newspapers in Lamar; Hastings, Neb.; Rapid City, S.D., and Omaha. He and his wife Betty recently moved to Eden Prairie, Minn.
Joan Barthelme Bugbee ('55) was selected for the 52nd Edition of "Whos Who in America." She is a retired vice president of corporate communications for Pennzoil Co. A student at Roanoke College, she is doing free-lance public relations for the college and reading to the blind over a local NPR affiliate.

Chuck Loos ('63) in January became founding editor of Irvine Spectrum News, a community weekly for a high-tech business complex.Frank Malouff ('69) was recently named executive director of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology & Oncology in Reston, Va.
The '70sDiane Ludlow ('70), after extensive employment in technical editing and writing, completed her masters degree in gerontology and is now program director for Urban Elders Programs at San Francisco State University.
Trent Thornton ('71) has been named president of Creative Marketing Resources in Lakewood, an industrial marketing communications company.
Gary Stoller ('77) was named investigative editor for USA Today after 10 years as investigative reporter for Conde Nast Traveler. He has published 10 books, served as a literary agent and packager and been a frequent guest on CNN and other TV networks. He lives in Newtown, Conn.
Mark Korman ('79) has been appointed director of regulatory affairs for Guaranty National Insurance Co. in Englewood.
John Lane ('79) writes and produces multimedia projects for Technology Training Services in Aurora.
Rick Nobles ('79) is assistant news editor for the San Jose Mercury News.
Rachelle Wood ('79) is director of public affairs for Ball Aerospace in Broomfield. She was previously a technical writer and manager of technical communications at Ball.
The '80sNeri Kastner ('80) is an account manager for Sportswear International Magazine in New York City.
Kaye Bache-Snyder ('81 MA) writes poems, short stories and essays. In 1997 her stories appeared in Aethlon, Pudding, Short Story and Thelma. Her poems have won awards from The Devils Milhopper, Kaiser Permanente, Negative Capability, New Delta Review, Writers Journal and Writers Digest. She was awarded a 1998 writing residency at Hedgebrook Farm on Whidbey Island, northwest of Seattle. Previously, she had careers in university teaching, tour leadership, public relations and reporting and editing. She lives in Longmont.
Jenny Herring ('82) has joined Founders Funds in Denver as senior financial writer.
Colleen Miller ('83) has returned to Colorado after working in Seattle and Minneapolis. She is public relations manager for U.S. West Interactive/MediaOne in Englewood.
Chris Bittman ('85), and his wife, Kendra Noble, became parents of twins in December. He is principal and senior vice president for Jurika & Voyles Inc. Investment Management in Oakland, Calif. He sold his business last year to a public company in a $100 million transaction.
Debora Getz Hannigan ('85) teaches high school Spanish at Christian Heritage School in Trumbull, Conn., where she is also head of the foreign language department.
Glenn Asakawa ('86), a photographer for the Rocky Mountain News, won the Best of Show Award at the 1997 Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters Association annual awards ceremony in Denver. He also won first place in Sports Photography.
Shane Fitzgerald ('86) was promoted to high school sports editor and Rocky Preps section editor at the Rocky Mountain News in 1996. He writes a weekly column, manages 20 people and coordinates statewide coverage and a World Wide Web site.
Gary Gleason ('86) is president of Communique USA Inc. of Aspen, a marketing consulting firm offering market research, strategic planning, advertising and public relations. Clients include Apex Security Group, Aspen Golf Course, Aspen Internet Services, the Colorado Department of Transportation, First Resort Software and Public Service Company of Colorado.
George Tanner ('87) began work in January as a copy editor and page designer for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver. He lives in Greeley with his wife, Karen, and their children, Sydney and Zane.
William Bradley ('88 MA) is the newspaper adviser at Cherry Creek High School. The newspaper, The Union Street Journal, won first place in the Colorado High School Press Association convention at CU in October and ninth place at the National Scholastic Press Association in St. Louis, Mo., in November. He writes once a week for The Denver Posts prep sports coverage.
Lisa Greim ('88 MA), writes for the Rocky Mountain News and won a first place in the Business News category at the 1997 Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters Association annual awards ceremony in Denver.
Nick Seifert ('88) has been promoted to national sales and marketing manager for Field & Stream and Outdoor Life magazines of Times Mirror Magazines in Chicago. He also hosted Outdoor Lifes Tournament Angler television series on Outdoor Life Network and is negotiating a new contract with ESPN2.
Erica Wilner ('88), a reporter for KUSA-TV in Denver, won the 1997 Heartland Regional Emmy Award for Outstanding Spot News for her coverage of a building explosion.
Michelle Ackerman ('89) is the classified advertising sales manager at the Rocky Mountain News in Denver.
Jennifer Snead Chavez ('89) is communications director for the Colorado Energy Assistance Foundation. She recently married Chris Chavez, who is also in public relations. She was awarded a 1997 Gold Pick Award for the best annual report in the nonprofit category.
Michael Cote ('89 MA) was named business editor of the Boulder Daily Camera in February. Previously he was a city editor for the Naples Daily News in Florida.
Naomi Horii ('89) is editor at Many Mountains Moving in Boulder. Recently, she also became English-section editor for the Rocky Mountain Jiho, an internationally distributed arts magazine.
Michelle Aguayo Shannon ('89) and her husband, Sean, in September had their first daughter, Ciara. Michelle is an anchor and reporter for WQAD-TV in Moline, Ill.
The '90sMichelle Heller ('90) is press secretary for Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren in Washington, D.C., after spending the previous three years working at newspapers in Beijing and Hong Kong.
Robyn Holloway ('90) is New York advertising manager for Promenade Magazines Inc. in New York City.
Jodie Kashuba ('90) left work as a marketing representative in the music industry to return to IBM as a Global Services process writer in support of telecommunications.
Ken Morrissette ('90) in December began work as an associate at the Perkins Coie law firm in Seattle. Previously he was a judicial clerk in Alaska for two years and last fall spent two months in Australia and New Zealand.
John Russell ('90) won first place in the Sports Photography category at the 1997 Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters Association annual awards ceremony in Denver. He photographs for Steamboat Today.
Amy Jewett Sampson ('90) has been promoted to the position of director of public relations at Colorado Christian University in Denver. She is pursuing a masters degree in public administration at the University of Colorado at Denver and was accepted into the 1997-98 Colorado Republican leadership program.
Brian Siebrandt ('90) recently moved from California to Florida where he is a multimedia consultant for Gibson & Associates Inc., a management consulting firm in Tampa. He is also a free-lance screenwriter and is producing a childrens video for the American Brain Tumor Association.
Christine Mahoney-Rubin ('91) recently took a job as reporter and fill-in anchor at the KVVU-TV, a new Fox station in Las Vegas. The first newscast is scheduled for June.
Tom Van Ness ('91) is a copywriter at KVO Advertising in Portland, Ore., where he works on broadcast and print ads. His work has been seen in Communication Arts, CMYK and Adweek. He has won a Clio award, an Addy and a Portland Rosey.
Michael Jaquet ('93) is publisher of Freeze magazine. The publication, owned by Times Mirror Magazines, moved to Boulder in 1997.
Ron Kruck ('93) was named production manager for Lucent Business TV in September. He produces Lucents in-house business television broadcasts and co-hosts a college football scorecard on KNUS radio in Denver. He also does free-lance sports broadcasting for KWHD-TV.
Lori Midson ('93 MA) recently was named director of communication for the Colorado Restaurant Association in Denver.
Erin Smit ('93) is a public relations specialist for the IHS Group in Englewood.

Aliza Schlifkin ('95) was recently promoted to senior account executive for Ruder-Finn Inc. in New York City. She handles public relations for pharmaceutical companies. She lives with Mitch Rothman ('95).
Robert S. Weinhold ('95 MA) has written a book, "Rating Guide to Environmentally Healthy Metro Areas," published by Animas Press. He is a freelance journalist specializing in environmental health issues and is the health and medical writer for the Durango Herald.
