Obituary: John Mitchell

Former SJMC Professor John Mitchell died March 20 in Syracuse, N.Y. He was 84.

Mitchell was recruited to CU by Gayle Waldrop as a faculty member for its newly formed School of Journalism where he taught from 1958-1973. In 1973, he became chairman of the newspaper department of the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. He retired in 1994.

His son Justin Mitchell ('78) works for the China Daily in Beijing.
