The '40s

Virginia Patterson ('46) was honored in March by the Boulder Chamber of Commerce with the Frannie Reich Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognizes business people who have made a significant contribution to the chamber and demonstrate leadership qualities in their membership work and personal life.

The '60s

Don Cofman ('64) returned to the U.S. in 2006 after 13 years overseas. He had retired in 1995 after a 30-year career in the U.S. Foreign Service and settled with his Turkish-born wife Oya in Ankara, Turkey, where he worked as a journalist, business consultant and association executive. Their plans are to spend much of the year in the Washington, D.C., suburbs, near their five grandchildren, but to return each summer to their vacation home on the Aegean coast of Turkey. don.cofman@verizon.net

 

The '80s

Joe Prentice ('80) of the Boulder Camera won third place in headline writing from the Colorado Press Association in February.

Michael O'Keeffe ('82) co-authored "The Card: Collectors, Con Men and the True Story of History's Most Desired Baseball Card," with Teri Thompson, a colleague and editor at the New York Daily News. The hardcover came out last spring, and the paperback will make its debut in June. mokeeffe@nydailynews.com

Gary Baines ('83) recently left the Boulder Camera after five years as the sports editor to create the online Colorado Golf Journal. He is also a freelance writer. coloradogolfjournal@mac.com

Kate Maddox ('83) is a senior reporter at Crain Communications' BtoB Magazine, where she writes about industry trends, strategies and technology for business-to-business marketers. She also speaks at industry events and moderates panel discussions and webcasts. She lives in Southern California with her two children.

Clint Talbott ('85) left his post as editorial page editor at the Boulder Camera to join CU's College of Arts and Sciences as the publications coordinator in March.

Glenn Asakawa ('86) of The Denver Post won second place in portrait and personality photographs from the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters awards in February. He left the Post and joined CU's University Communications department in March.

Gary Gleason ('86) was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach and study emerging management at the Polytechnic Institute in Leiria, Portugal, next fall. g.gleason@disasterprep.info

Chris Fisher ('87) is the director of media production at National CineMedia, a company that operates the largest digital in-theater network in North America through a venture of AMC Entertainment Inc., Cinemark USA Inc. and Regal Entertainment Group, as well as affiliated theaters. chris.fisher@ncm.com

Michelle Aguayo ('89) is the media relations manager in the Corporate Communications Department of Northwest Airlines. She is doing voice work with NUTS talent agency in the Twin Cities and also does freelance work for a nonprofit group in Colorado, AMIDA Productions Inc. Tanya Ishikawa ('89) was awarded one of 15 American Press Institute fellowships for the 2008 seminars in Reston, Va. She is an editor and freelance writer for the Denver Urban Spectrum and was selected for the Walter Everett Fellowship to attend the Interactive Community News seminar in March.
