The '90s John F. Russell (’90) of the Hayden Valley Press won second place in sports photo in the 2006 Colorado Press Association Contest in February. He also won the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters first-place award in beat reporting, first place in sports column, and second and third place in feature photo for the Steamboat Pilot & Today, also in February. Dennis Huspeni (’91) of The Gazette in Colorado Springs won with another reporter the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters third-place award in February for beat reporting. Johanna Maes (’92) is the assistant dean of student life at the Metropolitan State College of Denver, overseeing the office of Student Media, which includes the Metropolitan student newspaper; the MetReport student television newscast; the Metrosphere, student literacy publication; and the MetRadio, student radio station. Joe Hanel (’95) of The Durango Herald won second place in the series category in the 2006 Colorado Press Association Contest in February. She is a freelance writer who covers a variety of topics including health issues, personality profiles and travel. She is the founder of Meningioma Mommas, a 24/7, online nonprofit support group to raise funds for meningioma research. She also has had numerous appearances in the media including Discovery Health Channel, the “TODAY” show, USA Today, Woman’s World, and the Rocky Mountain News. Michael Kelly (MA ’95) of the Longmont Daily Times-Call won a Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters second-place award in February for sports column. Julie Hoffman Marshall (MA ’95) and her husband, Tim, welcomed their second daughter, Jasmine Rose Marshall, who was born during the week of the Front Range blizzard on Dec. 18. They also have a 2-year-old daughter, Sarah. The family lives in Lafayette. Mitch Rothman (’95) is a broker assistant with the Southeast Metro DTC office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. He and a business partner were ranked fourth among the company’s more than 1,800 real estate agents for 2006 based on gross commission income.
