The '80s

Bill Scanlon (MA ’80) of the Rocky Mountain News won a Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters third-place award in February for sports writing.

Marilyn Fritzler ('76, MA ’82) owns Editing Solutions. She has published articles in Better Homes and Gardens and trade association magazines in England, and has edited plays for high school and community theaters. She lives in Wheat Ridge. editwrite@peoplepc.com

Cliff Grassmick (’82) of the Boulder Camera won a Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters second-place award in February for general news photo.

Neill Woelk (’82) of the Boulder Camera won a Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters third-place award in February for sports column.

Carolyn Krawczyk (MA ’83) is a producer, director and writer with Atherton Pictures in Austin, Texas.

Johnny Dodd (’85) is the author of a new book, “Mozart and the Whale: An Asperger’s Love Story,” published in January. He said the book is selling well in the United States and in 10 other countries, where publishing companies have purchased rights. Dodd is a staff writer for People Magazine in Los Angeles.

Clint Talbott (’85) has been named the editorial page editor of the Boulder Camera. Talbott, joined the Camera in 1998 after 12 years as editor of the Colorado Daily.

Glenn Asakawa (’86) of The Denver Post won a Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters first-place award in February for spot news photo, first place in portrait/personality, and first place and third place in photo illustration. He also won first place in continuing photo coverage with other reporters of the Post.

Roger Boss (’86) is segment-marketing manager for Hewlett-Packard in Houston. He was recently elected to the board of directors of the Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), a Houston-based nonprofit organization that provides free animal sterilization services to qualifying low-income households in the Houston and San Antonio areas. Boss also holds a bachelor’s degree in communication.

Linda Kravets (’86) is a project manager for MPL Media.com. She lives in Nashville, Tenn., and rides her bike to work. She said that was deemed so newsworthy that a local news station leads its newscast with a story about her.

Mike Cote (MA ’89) is editor of ColoradoBiz, a monthly magazine that addresses business and economic issues statewide. He joined the magazine after nine years with the Camera in Boulder, where he worked as business editor and city editor respectively. Since 2003, Cote has taught reporting and news editing at CU as an adjunct instructor. He is also a regular contributor to Blues Revue magazine. Cote lives in Erie.

Susan Lawson-Cannizzaro (’89) was marketing director for Lifestyles Realtors from June 2005 to November 2006. She married Frank Cannizzaro and bore their first son in August. She said she is enjoying motherhood and is also a freelance writer for Atlanta publications. She lives in Woodstock, Ga.

Rob Spicker (’89) began his ninth year as a reporter and anchor at WFTS-TV. He won a Suncoast Regional Emmy Award last December for documentary work featuring a Tampa man attempting to climb Mount Everest. He and his wife, Angie, and their twins live in Tampa, Fla. rspicker@abcactionnews.com
