John Diedrich, a police reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, gave faculty and reporting students an inside look into the world of police-beat reporting, the Milwaukee police "code of silence" and the aftermath of his six-part series about investigation into the beating of a man by off-duty Milwaukee police officers in October 2004.
As a result, nine officers were fired, three got lengthy suspensions and one was demoted.
Diedrich visited the School in April after winning the 2006 Al Nakkula Award for Police Reporting sponsored by the School, the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Press Club. |
