Swanson's Mayo career spanned decades

By Luke Graham

Dave Swanson ('68) retired five years ago from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

He spent 15 years there in the Department of Administration, where he was head of communications, and was at the Mayo Medical Ventures unit for 15 years, where he helped start the Mayo Clinic Health Letter and served as founding managing editor for about 10 years.

"I finished my career at Mayo in book publishing," he said. "I was managing editor of the first couple of editions of the 'Mayo Clinic Family Health Book' and edited several other hard- and soft-cover medical books for public consumption."

A News-Editorial major, Swanson was an editor at The Typographical Journal for the International Typographical Union in Colorado Springs before going to work for the Mayo Clinic. He lives in Rochester. deswanson@charter.net
