The School's advertising program has once again proved itself to be a dominant creative presence. For the fourth year in a row, CU students won major awards at The One Show, a nationally recognized competition celebrating student excellence in advertising.

The One Club in New York City sponsors the show, in many respects the most prestigious award program in the advertising industry.

The college competition, sponsored by the Newspaper Association of America, called for students to develop ad campaigns that would encourage 18- to 24-year-olds to read a daily newspaper or its online version.

There were more than 500 student entries. CU students received more awards than any other undergraduate program in the United States, twice as many as the next university and the third-highest number of awards overall, including graduate institutions. Four CU teams were named merit finalists and will have their work published in The One Show annual.

"We have now had a significant presence in The One Show competition for four years running," Associate Professor Brett Robbs said. "It demonstrates a great combination of teaching and student ability.

"The One Show awards are building a buzz around the program and help open doors for our graduates when they start to look for jobs," Robbs said.

The student work was displayed in a showcase at The One Show Festival in New York. The weeklong festival began May 5, and the student work was to be shown throughout the month. The award-winning advertisements also were put on display in the front hallway of the Armory.

The four merit finalist teams were Scott Ginsberg ('03), January Vernon ('03) and senior Matt Miller; Jeremy Boland ('03), Tyler Carner ('02) and Andy Dao ('02); Julia Veinberg ('03) and junior Kat Ford; and Jonathan Byrne ('02) and Leah Dieterich ('02).

Also, CU was one of only seven four-year institutions in the nation to be invited to participate in The One Show's prestigious student exhibition. The other 15 invited institutions were art schools, professional portfolio schools and graduate programs.
