Associate Professor Bruce Henderson

Associate Professor Bruce Henderson taught the Campus Press Newspaper Practicum, Advanced Editing, Digital Newsroom, and Educational Web Site Theory and Production.

He received the CU President's Faculty Excellence Award for Advancing Teaching and Learning through Technology. The $10,000 CU systemwide award was in recognition of efforts and research involving the use of the Web in teaching.

Henderson published a journal article in the Autumn 2002 Journalism and Mass Communication Educator based on the successful development of a Web-based grammar checker. He also published a documentary DVD, available through Lawrence Earlbaum Associates, titled "CSCL 2002-DVD," an interactive video about the Computer Support for Collaborative Learning 2002 international conference. The DVD also includes a searchable database of all CSCL conference papers from 1997-2002.

Henderson received three grants:

  • $15,750 for the Online Arts in Education Pilot Project from the Colorado Council on the Arts. This project involves creating a virtual poet-in-residence program using two Colorado poets and six high school teachers in underserved areas of Colorado. The Web site serving the teachers and poets is at newmedia.colorado.edu/poets.
  • $6,400 from Colorado Council on the Arts for continuation of the virtual poetry-in-residence program and to expand it to three poets and eight high school teachers.
  • $10,000 from the National Science Foundation for planning and hosting the international Computer Support for Collaborative Learning conference, held January 2002 in Boulder.
