The School hosted several visiting professionals this spring.
Jim Peltz, (79 MA), a business writer for the Los Angeles Times, visited March 4-6 to talk to reporting classes. Keith Hartenberger, manager of news and programming for Tribune Company Intergroup Development, the unit responsible for coordinating the companys internal and external cross-media efforts, talked to several classes March 13-15.
Dick Wald, a professor at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and former president of ABC News, visited classes in April. Another visitor was Maya Cohen, designer and producer of interactive media.
The visits were funded by the Schools Hearst Professional-In-Residence program.
Stephanie Warsmith, police reporter for the Beacon Journal in Akron, Ohio, and the 12th winner of the Al Nakkula Award for Police Reporting, visited classes in March and received the $2,000 award at the Denver Press Clubs Damon Runyon Banquet 6 in Denver.
Gwen Florio, a Denver Post reporter who recently returned from Somalia, Sudan and Afghanistan, was one of several Denver-area professionals who talked to classes this spring.
Others included Dateline NBC producer Susan Leibowitz and Jennifer Hoffman, an assistant producer, who talked to a broadcast news class in April while they were in Boulder working on a story about drugs on U.S. campuses.
