Professor Stewart Hoover of the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Journalism and Mass Communication has been named interim dean of the school, said Provost Phil DiStefano.

Dean Del Brink-man announced his resignation in February, citing health and family concerns.

Brinkman had been dean since January 2001.

A national search for Brinkman’s replacement will be launched either before or at the beginning of the next academic year, DiStefano said, with a new dean likely to be announced sometime in spring or early summer 2003.

“He did an outstanding job as interim dean before Del Brinkman’s arrival, and he will continue the initiatives that Dean Brinkman began, including the completion of a strategic plan,” DiStefano said.

Hoover served as interim dean from July 1999 to January 2001.

A native of Rocky Ford, Hoover joined the faculty in 1991. Prior to coming to CU-Boulder, he held several positions in the School of Communications and Theater at Temple University.

He earned his doctorate in mass communication at the University of Pennsylvania and is an internationally recognized authority on broadcast and print media coverage of religion.
