National Reputation Earned in The One Show
Shown are examples of work featured in the One Show Student Exhibit.
The CU creative advertising program has established itself as a national presence. Students in the program have won a series of awards for the third year in a row at The One Show Festival, the nations most prestigious student creative competitions. The event is sponsored by New Yorks The One Club.
The Schools advertising sequence was invited to show creative work in the highly respected One Show Student Exhibition in New York City.
CU was one of only five four-year universities in the nation to receive an invitation. The rest of the 23 institutions are art and portfolio trade schools.
The invitation is like a stamp of approval for our undergraduate program, which marks our emergence as a national player, Associate Professor Brett Robbs said.
Its definitely something CU should feel validated by, said Tiffany Meyers, education director for The One Show.
The work will be displayed at a showcase at The One Show festival in New York City in early May and throughout the month, Robbs said.
Being featured in the show gives CU the credibility that opens the door for students when they contact leading professionals for interviews, Robbs said.
Also, for the second year in a row, the School has been notified that two of its students have teamed up to win a coveted Pencil award in the One Show College Competition. More than 500 entries were received, and the top three will receive Pencil awards at a ceremony on May 10 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. Three CU student teams were also among the 25 merit finalist winners. Both the Pencil winners and the merit finalists will have their work published in The One Show annual.
Robbs said CU won more prizes than any other undergraduate program.
He said the reason CUs success at the national level reflects both the talent of its students and the commitment of adjunct professional such as Jonathan Schoenberg, Norm Shearer, Michael Smilanic, Eric Liebhauser and Annette Osterlund.
For example, Jonathan takes students as creative interns at TDA and they receive excellent training, Robbs said. And hes generous enough to work with them after graduation to help them polish their skills. Without all that, all this wouldnt happen.
