Veteran journalist Alan Kirkpatrick ('96 MA) has joined the
School's staff to tackle a variety of responsibilities. For the past five years,
Kirkpatrick taught reporting and editing classes at the School. Now he is also the
School's internship coordinator, designs Bylines and assists with student advising. Kirkpatrick logged two decades at daily newspapers, almost all of them as an editor. He was at the Longmont Daily Times-Call for 10 years and also worked for the Boulder Daily Camera. Kirkpatrick said working with internships is just an old job with a new twist. "My favorite part of editing has always been working with students and new reporters,'' Kirkpatrick said. "It was what prompted me to get my master's and move to a collegiate environment." Kirkpatrick's graduate research focused on journalists' use of the Internet and other new technology to gather and produce news. "For me, it's especially interesting to see how many intern opportunities are opening up for our students in new media," he said. |
