'40s
Melvin Mencher ('47) is the author of the classic textbook "News Reporting and Writing," now in its 11th edition. The book features current developments in all areas of reporting including updated coverage on the war in Iraq, the questionable use of photos, dozens of new Internet sources and how journalists use them. More than a quarter of a million students have learned the craft and ethics of journalism from Mencher's textbooks.
'50s
Dick Johnston ('50), former Denver Post reporter and editor, published a book, "The Taylor Ranch War: Property Rights Die," (AuthorHouse) and dedicated it in part to A. Gayle Waldrop, former director of the School of Journalism 1949-1962. Johnston lives in Westminster.

'60s
Don Lyle ('62) is executive editor of Hart's E&P (for oil and gas exploration and production) magazine in Houston, the highest-circulation magazine in the energy industry. After his retirement at the end of February, Lyle will work on special projects including hosting Web forums and writing supplemental magazines that mail with the main magazine and cover topics such as the history of oil and gas in the Rocky Mountains, the Gulf of Mexico and the United States. He'll do that work from the Denver area, where he worked for years as a reporter and editor with the Rocky Mountain News.
Jane M. Noah ('62) was named recipient of the 2007 Investigator Philosopher Award of the Criminal Defense Investigation Training Council and appointed editor of the official journal of the National Association of Legal Investigators, The Legal Investigator. She goes by Jane Cracraft professionally and is also associate editor of PI Magazine.
Ken Frazier ('64) has completed his 30th year as editor of the Skeptical Inquirer: The Magazine for Science and Reason (www.csicop.org/si). For 23 of those years (1983-2006) he worked concurrently in the public information and communications group at Sandia National Laboratories, the last 11 as editor of Sandia's award-winning newspaper, the Sandia Lab News. Peter Wien ('68) is brand director for CoreBrand in Stamford, Conn. He was on the Norwalk, Conn., common council from 2001 to 2005 and served on the board of directors of Norwalk Economic Opportunity Now. He chairs the Youth Services Advisory Board and serves on the board of an organization he started to encourage citizens to help maintain and keep local parks in top condition.
