Schaefer returns to help with tech needs

By Luke Graham

Professors in the School now have more ways to make their classes interactive thanks to Daniel Schaefer (MA '04).

As the new academic technology coordinator for the School, Schaefer said he will educate and assist faculty with educational technologies.

Schaefer helps faculty set up Web pages and PowerPoint presentations.

During the fall semester, Schaefer implemented the WebCT pilot program in which all journalism classes are linked to a Web site where students can go to find information, assignments and updates on courses they are taking.

An Ann Arbor, Mich., native, Schaefer received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University. He worked at the University of Michigan Law School as the Web designer and then came to Colorado in 2002 to pursue a master's degree. After he graduated, he taught two semesters of public speaking at Metropolitan State College of Denver. When he saw the listing for a job at CU, he said he jumped at the chance.

"They wanted someone who was familiar with the faculty, had a master's degree and had worked with ITS (CU's Information Technology Services)," he said. "It seemed like a rather unique situation."

Schaefer also continues to teach at Metro State. In his free time he said he enjoys hiking, biking, snowboarding during the winter and visiting Colorado breweries. Daniel.J.Schaefer@colorado.edu
