Deans returns to the Boulder Daily Camera as its editor

Susan C. Deans ('75 MA) was named editor of the Daily
Camera in Boulder
on Sept. 1. She directs news and editorial operations of the 34,000-circulation
daily newspaper.
She was an assistant managing editor at the Rocky Mountain News from
April 1999 through August 2003. Her responsibilities there included the
weekend newspaper, night supervision of the newsroom and other duties.
Previously she was editor and vice president of The Sun News, a daily
newspaper in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for nine years. She was also managing
editor of The Sun News for three years.
Early in her career, the Chicago native spent 10 years at the Daily
Camera, starting as a reporter covering the University of Colorado, local and state
government, and later becoming city editor, then assistant managing editor.
She has taught journalism at the University of Colorado and Metropolitan
State College of Denver and has worked in advertising and public relations.
Deans served for three years on the board of directors of the American
Society of Newspaper Editors and is currently one of the editors of its
magazine, The American Editor.
She and her husband, Malcolm Deans, a former newspaperman who is retired
from the journalism faculty at the University of Colorado, live in Denver. "Mal is happily retired, excited about moving back to Boulder and spends
a lot of time watching baseball, reading and keeping an eye on the local
newspapers," she said.
She has a grown son, Jeffrey Foss, who lives in Brighton.
