Alumni and External Affairs

Alumni and professionals in all aspects of the media partner with the school to enhance curriculum, develop facilities and enrich student experiences.

An Advisory Board of leading mass media professionals works closely with the dean to gain recognition and support for the continued development of the school.

Alumni and friends of the school make significant contributions by investing in the school.

Graduates of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication hold key positions throughout the United States in advertising, news, entertainment, government, education, business and law. Many donate their time and energy to the school’s rapidly expanding Career Network, volunteering to become contacts for other SJMC graduates looking for jobs in their area of the country or field of work.

The semiannual Bylines alumni newsletter features achievements of alumni and significant news of the school. Alumni with news for Bylines or changes in address can do so by email.

The school works closely with the Colorado Press Association on a number of projects.

It also coordinates the Al Nakkula Award for Police Reporting, the only national award of its kind.
