The 21st-century is a work in progress, a world characterized by rapid and continuous change driven by emerging technologies.
And in this new world, interaction design (IxD) plays a key strategic role––from its impact on local interactions to global social change. The IXDMA produces talented design thinkers and interaction designers through a focus on the theory and practice of designing experiences that are human-centered, adaptive, relevant and forward looking.
IXDMA is a ten-month, 30-hour masters degree program that transforms students into design professionals who can hit the ground running. Industry professionals from leading design firms, agencies and startups are the primary faculty in the program. Immersive, integrated, and industry-connected, IXDMA students work on real-world projects, developing innovative solutions to problems out in the world. From short and intense design sprints to extensive ongoing projects, you’ll work with our professional partners from the creative industries to develop user-centered design solutions.
Before IXDMA, there was BDW––an experimental graduate certificate program launched in 2009 as Boulder Digital Works. With the creation of the College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI)––the newest college at the University of Colorado Boulder––we saw an opportunity to evolve BDW into a masters degree program focused on IxD. BDW developed and refined a model of graduate learning that integrated design, technology and entrepreneurism with exceptional results. Collaborative, studio-based and project-driven, BDW’s graduates are in leadership roles in the creative industries locally, nationally and internationally.
An exceptional network of talent, BDW alumni remain actively engaged in the IXDMA as teachers, advisors, and mentors, providing input and guidance––from the shape and content of the curriculum to the focus of sponsored projects and entrepreneurial efforts.
The IXDMA is an evolution and application of the learning innovations developed through seven years and 104 graduates of BDW now working at design firms, agencies, and startups from Uber to Apple, Pinterest to R/GA, Wieden, 72 and Sunny, Deutsch LA and more.
