Important Username and Password Information

Before joining the domain, it is important for departments to understand how users are handled in the campus Windows 2000 domain.

Usernames

  • All usernames for campus users will be identical to their IdentiKey usernames. This may represent a change from their current departmental computer accounts.
  • All usernames for administrative users (the OU administrators in your group) must be greater than eight characters in length to prevent conflicts with the general user pool.

Passwords

  • By default, all users are given a long, complex, randomly generated, unknown domain password. Users do not need to know this password as they will use their IdentiKey password to authenticate to the campus domain.
  • When administrative accounts are created, they will be given a known password that should be changed immediately.
  • Department administrators will not be able to change users' IdentiKey or domain passwords
  • Users will be able to change their own IdentiKey password through the standard ITS IdentiKey password changing process.
