Long Distance Service

You'll be connected to the world when you arrive at your residence on the CU-Boulder campus. All campus housing facilities have telephone service, provided you bring your own phone. An authorization code, required for Long Distance calling, can be provisioned for you at the IT Service Center.

As a campus resident, you do not pay for local calls made from the telephone in your campus residence. You only pay for long distance calls made using your authorization code. The Bursar's Office will bill you monthly for long distance charges. You can pay your bills at the Bursar's Office.

To cancel service, allow at least 24 hours before you leave the University. Call ITS at 735-HELP. Note that we are not open for this type of administrative business on weekends, holidays, or evenings.

Long Distance Rates

6 cents per minute, anytime

For international rates, call 303-735-HELP, or use the ITS Rates Calculator.

Long Distance Authorization Codes

You will need an authorization code to make long distance calls from the telephone in your campus residence. Authorization codes are assigned by ITS. Visit the IT Service Center to get your code.

Do not give your authorization code to anyone. If you do, you will be responsible for charges made using that code.

How to Make a Long Distance Call

Dial 8 and the long distance number you wish to reach. When you hear the confirmation dial tone, enter your authorization code. If the code is correct, you will be connected with the number you dialed. (For more information, see Dialing Instructions.)

Requesting a Credit to Your Account

If you think you have been billed incorrectly for a particular call, stop by the IT Service Center and submit a credit request. Be ready to identify each call for which you are requesting a credit and the reason for the request.

Lost or Stolen Authorization Code

If you think someone else has used your authorization code to make long distance calls, contact the IT Service Center at 735-HELP to cancel that authorization code and visit our office to obtain a new one.

Other Phone Cards

You may make long distance calls from the telephone in your campus residence with cards provided by other long distance service providers; however, be aware that surcharges and other hidden expenses can make them a very expensive option. Calling long distance from campus, using your authorization code is not only convenient but cost effective. When calling from off-campus, use your Buff OneCard or other long distance service provider.

To make a long distance call with a prepaid or other calling card, follow the instructions on the card.
