IDL and ENVI are premier software products for data analysis, processing, and visualization. CU-Boulder has benefitted from an IDL site license since it was first developed by an alumnus in the 1980s. IDL/ENVI is now developed and sold by ITT Visual Information Solutions, www.ittvis.com.

Eligibility:
IDL/ENVI licenses (via our site license) are available for university-owned computers of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Generally this means computers in the colorado.edu domain or used in pursuing a degree at UCB. Users are to de-install this software when they graduate or otherwise leave the campus permanently.
Platforms:
IDL and ENVI are available for UNIX (incl. Linux), Macintosh, and Windows computers, as listed on the ITTVIS download page.
2009-2010 fee schedule:
A new or upgrade license involves only a $20 service fee.
How to get it:
First download the software from the ITTVIS download page, and install it. Then send the following information to sitelic@colorado.edu:
- SpeedType (8-digit departmental account code) to which license fee can be charged; or, personal check
- Name of the computer (hostname)
- Operating system of the computer
- Type of license: node-locked (single-computer), or network (multi-computer) server license?
- The "HostID" of the computer, usually a 12-character code (for Solaris, only 8 characters)
What is included:
IDL 7 is the current version of IDL, and now comes with a free Wavelet Toolkit. MPEG licenses are an additional $15 apiece. The current version of ENVI is 4.7, which works together with IDL 7.1.
Support:
Questions and tech support problems can be sent to sitelic@colorado.edu. Periodic hands-on workshops are available for those new to the software. Groups can request a workshop for more advanced topics.
