Computing Quick Classes

Computing quick classes Student hands-on classes are instructor-led and hands-on to teach you to learn different skills through experimentation. Quick Classes classes are offered at various days and times throughout the semester. To view the available classes and to sign up for the class(es) you want to attend, click on the Register button. You will receive a confirmation e-mail for each class you sign up for, as well as a reminder e-mail before the class starts.

Quick Classes will be offered on EACH of the following topics. All classes are located at Folsom Stadium in room 192. Go in Gate #11.


Introduction to Excel 2007
Excel is a spreadsheet program that allows you to organize data such as numbers and text, do calculations, create charts and even record data for next year's taxes.

During this class you will:

  • Learn basic spreadsheet concepts
  • Open, Close and Save a workbook
  • Enter and Edit data
  • Insert and Delete Rows and Columns
  • Adjust Column width and Row height
  • Use On-line Help
  • Use AutoFill and basic Formulas
  • Apply Formatting
  • Create a Chart
  • Print Preview a Workbook

Prerequisites: This is an introductory course for students who are already familiar with Windows 2000/XP, but have little experience with Microsoft Excel 2007.

    Introduction to PowerPoint 2007
    Create a basic presentation with PowerPoint by using built-in features.

    During this class you will learn to:

    • Create and save a presentation
    • Use the AutoContent wizard
    • Navigate through the slide views
    • Apply a design template
    • Use online help
    • Add, delete and modify slides
    • Check for Spelling Errors
    • Insert pictures and multimedia objects into the slides
    • Present using the slideshow

    Prerequisites: This is an introductory course for students who are already familiar with Windows 2000/XP, but have little experience with Microsoft PowerPoint 2007.

    Basic Web Page Design With NVU
    Learn to create your own web site using a free HTML editor called NVU, and publish it to WebFiles (an online file manager available to students.)

    In this class you will learn how to:

    • Create your own homepage
    • Use tables to layout page content
    • Enter, format, and edit text
    • Create internal and external links
    • Use techniques to improve the look of your site
    • Publish your web site using WebFiles

    Creating a Web Site with Adobe Dreamweaver
    Learn to create your own web site using Adobe Dreamweaver (a high end, commercial HTML editor), and publish it to WebFiles, an online file managing tool available to students.

    In this class you will learn how to:

    • Create your own homepage
    • Use tables to layout page content
    • Enter, format, and edit text
    • Create internal and external links
    • Use techniques to improve the look of your site
    • See the extent of Dreamweaver's capabilities for designing a web site
    • Publish your web site using WebFiles

    Computer Security & Privacy
    With the increase in SPAM, viruses, and worms affecting campus networks nationwide, learn how to protect yourself from these potential problems. Identity theft is a growing concern as the internet makes it easier for personal information to be stolen. This class will cover ways you can keep your information private. More information and session dates will be available by the fall semester.

    KnowIT Digital Literacy
    Digital Literacy is a lecture/demonstration styled program designed to help students learn how to use multiple computer tools effectively. Topics include:

    • Effectively using Webmail, WebFiles (100 megabytes of online storage), and WebCal to manage your digital life.
    • How to use tools like the CU-VPN to safely use your wireless internet connection
    • How to use your newfound digital tools effectively in communication.

    Basics of Mathematica
    Mathematica is a tool not just for calculating but for doing all kinds of math; algebra, geometry, calculus, and more. It integrates numeric computation, symbolic computation, graphics, a programming language, and a documentation system. Best of all, it is available for all Boulder students and faculty under a new unlimited site license! In this 90-minute introductory workshop, the basic operation and syntax of Mathematica 6 are explained and reinforced with some hands-on practice. Meet in Stadium computer lab STAD 192
