CU-Boulder to Discontinue Support for Qwest DSL ServicesFor the past five years, Student Computing Fees have covered the cost of providing CU-Boulder ISP (Internet Service Provider) services for Qwest DSL. Because of very low student participation in this program, student government representatives and campus administrators, who jointly determine student computing fee allocations, have decided to reallocate the funding used for this program. The primary reason for this change is that currently only about two percent of students are benefiting from this program, meaning the program is underwriting non-student usage to an unacceptable degree for a student fee. The money will be reallocated to support student technology needs, including wireless access, increasing print quota, and enhanced e-mail performance. Beginning July 1, current Qwest DSL customers who have been using CU-Boulder as their ISP will need to select another ISP for their broadband connection. By doing so, their monthly fee will increase by approximately $10 per month, depending on the option selected. Current DSL customers using CU-Boulder as thier ISP should visit www.qwest.com/dsl for a list of alternate ISPs that will meet their needs. For this transition, Qwest has agreed to waive the $30 ISP change fee. ITS is working with Qwest to help make this transition as smooth as possible, but we realize that this will be an inconvenience. ITS will develop transition documentation and provide more details on this site in the near future. For more information, please visit www.colorado.edu/its/dsl/.
