Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)—Important Upgrade Information

If you must upgrade, read this first

While ITS recommends that you DO NOT upgrade to 10.6, just yet, there are some very important issues you must know about upgrading if you cannot wait.

Upgrading from Tiger (10.4) --> Snow Leopard (10.6)

  • ITS does not support or recommend this avenue of upgrading. We have found abundant issues with this path, when users skip over 10.5.
  • If you must perform this upgrade, a thorough back up of your files and a clean installation of Snow Leopard is the absolute best way.
  • If you insist on upgrading from Tiger and not doing a clean installation of Snow Leopard, you must first back up your files and then un-install the following programs:
    • PGP (Decrypt your disk and then un-install). This is most important, and cannot be overlooked or skipped. If you don't do this, you risk losing all of your files and access.
    • VMware
    • Firefox
    • CUantivirus
