Frequently Asked Questions

When can I order a computer through the Faculty Computer Purchase Program?

You can order your computer starting July 1. Ordering and reimbursement requests must be done by April 15.

How does the university determine who is eligible for the program?

Each college determines who is eligible. The basic principle of the program is to have each faculty member eligible once every four years based on who has the oldest computers. All eligibility decisions will be made at the college or department level.

How do I know if I’m eligible for the program this year?

You will be notified by FCPP soon after the start of the new fiscal year, July 1.

How do I get the funds for my new computer?

First, order your computer and then fill out the request for reimbursement form and send it to Bruce Fast, fcpp@colorado.edu. We will reimburse the cost of your order up to $1200.

Do I have to order a recommended system to get the reimbursement?

No, you may order any computer you like or other computer oriented equipment or software and be eligible for reimbursement. However, if you decide to buy a computer other than an Apple or Dell, know that the campus repair service, PC Maintenance, charges for warranty service for computers not from those two vendors. Please contact Bruce Fast, fcpp@colorado.edu, before ordering to confirm your eligibility for reimbursement.

What software do I receive with my computer?

All computers from recommended vendors will come loaded with an operating system (Windows Vista or Mac OS ) and a web browser. BugBusters will install CUantivirus and MS Office 2007 at no charge as part of the program. If you order a nonstandard system, we may not be able to provide Antivirus or Office depending on what you have ordered. (Example: if you order a Linux workstation, we will not be able to load CUantivirus or Office).

What if I don’t order a computer this year?

If you do not order a computer by April 15 then it is up to your college to decide if you should again be eligible the following year or if you will have to wait four years to be eligible again.
