Configuring RedHat Linux for DHCP/Wireless

Note:  You will need root access to modify the network settings.

1. If you do not already have a wireless card installed in your computer please install your wireless card according to the manufacturer's installation instructions. Then verify that your drivers are working properly per the manufacturer's specifications.

2. Using the Redhat menu, select System Settings, then Network, as shown below:

3. Select your wireless device, and click on Edit.

4. In the window that opens, select Automatically obtain IP address settings with dhcp, and Automatically obtain DNS information from provider then click OK

5. Close the Network Configuration window, and when prompted, save the changes.

6. Restart your computer.

The first time you try to use a web browser, you should be forwarded to the CU hardware registration page. At the registration page, you need to enter in your CU ID and Pin OR your CU login name and IdentiKey password. You should not enter both. Once you enter your registration information, restart your computer and you will be ready to use your wireless network card for your network connection.

For step-by-step instructions on registering your computer on the wireless network, visit www.colorado.edu/its/networking/dhcpreg.html.
