Configuring Windows XP for DHCP/Wireless

 

Install your card according to the manufacturer's installation instructions and verify that your drivers are working properly per the manufacturer's specifications.

In some places in these instructions there will be two ways to proceed depending on your configuration of Windows XP.

1. In the Start menu select Control Panels (this may be located under a Settings section).

2. You will see one of the following two screens:

If you see the second image, skip to step 4b.

3. Select Network and Internet Connections, you will see the following window:

4a. Select Network Connections at the bottom-right of the window and proceed to step 5.

4b. For those who have the second image listed below step step 2, double-click on Network Connections.

5. You will see a window like the one below, but it may have several items.

Right-click on the icon for your wireless network connection and select Properties.

6. You will see a window like the one below:

Select Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button. If you cannot click the properties button you may not have administrator rights to the computer, log off and log in as a user with administrator rights.

7. You will see a window like the one below:

Make sure the Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically items are selected. Then click OK on this window and the previous window to close them.

8. Click on Wireless Networks on the top then click on Advanced



9. Make sure you click on Access point (infrastructure) networks only. Then click on Close and then click OK to all the windows before.

The first time you try to use a web browser, you should be forwarded to the CU hardware registration page. At the registration page, you need to enter in your CU ID and Pin OR your CU login name and IdentiKey password. You should not enter both. Once you enter your registration information, restart your computer and you will be ready to use your wireless network card for your network connection.
