Windows XP Ethernet Configuration Instructions |

| 1. Go to Start and in the right column, right click on My Network Places and select Properties. (If you are running your computer in Classic Start Menu mode you can find My Network Places on the desktop). 2. On the right side of the Network Connections window you will see an icon for LAN. Right click on the LAN icon and select Properties (at the bottom of the menu).
3. Verify that Client for Microsoft Networks and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) are in the list of items that this connection uses and that a Check Mark is in the box for those items. The File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is can be selected if you wish.
4. Verify that the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties are correct by selecting Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the Local Area Connection Properties window and selecting the Properties button. 5. In the Properties window that open, click on the General tab. Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically should be selected and verified by looking for the green dot in the radio button. Once correct, click the OK button to close this window.
6. Now, right click on the LAN icon again and but select Repair from the menu this time.
This will automatically release and renew a valid IP address for you. Once this process is complete you will see a window similar to the one shown. Click OK.
7. Your computer should now have Ethernet connectivity. You can test this by opening a web browser, or your preferred e-mail program. |
