High Speed (Ethernet) Connectivity in the Residence Halls and University Apartments

This high-speed Internet service, also known as Ethernet, is for students living in the residence halls and university apartments (family housing and Bear Creek). If you are living in the College Inn, you will connect wirelessly.

What you need to do first:

  • Most computers have a network card already installed. If yours does not, you will have to properly install one. These can be purchased from the CU Book Store, which is located in the basement of the UMC.
  • Connect your computer to the Ethernet jack with a CAT5/6 network cable that has an RJ45 connector. A network cable that is shorter than 25 feet might not be long enough for residence hall rooms.
  • Configure your computer for ResNet connectivity by following the instructions for your platform:
  • After you configure your computer to connect, you will be stepped through the TOTALComm registration process, detailed below.

1-2-3 Computer Registration
1. Start a web browser (Internet Explorer on Windows and Safari on Macintosh) and go to http://dhcp.colorado.edu.

Before you are taken to the 1-2-3 registration page, your computer will be automatically scanned for security vulnerabilities. If your computer isn’t vulnerable, you will start the 1-2-3 registration process immediately. If your computer is vulnerable, you will go through a process that will remove that vulnerability. After your computer’s vulnerability has been removed, you will start the 1-2-3 registration process. Before the registration process begins, you will have the chance to receive information about CUantivirus, CU-Boulder’s no-cost antivirus software provided by ITS.

2. After the security scan, you will automatically be taken to the 1-2-3 registration page. First log in using your CU Login Name and IdentiKey password, or log in with your personal information if you haven’t activated your IdentiKey. Read the user responsibilities, and click Accept. Enter your CU ID number and PIN.

3. Shut down (power-off) your computer (you must complete this step). Your computer is now Internet ready.
