High Speed (Ethernet) Connectivity in CU-Boulder University Buildings

This high-speed Internet service, also known as Ethernet, is availble for faculty and staff working in CU-Boulder university buildings. To start using this service, read the information below:

What you need to do:

  1. Have an accessible Ethernet jack with working Ethernet service available for you to connect to the CU-Boulder network. To order Ethernet service, go to www.colorado.edu/its/networking.
  2. Make sure you have a properly installed Ethernet card in your computer. If you need an Ethernet card, one can be purchased from any computer store. If you need installation help from an IT support professional, call 303-735-HELP (5-4357 from an on-campus phone).
  3. Connect your computer to the Ethernet jack with a CAT5/6 network cable with an RJ45 connector.
  4. Configure your computer for Ethernet connectivity using the instructions for your platform:
    1. Windows Vista
    2. Windows XP
    3. Macintosh OS X
  5. After you have configured your computer, restart it. Once you have restarted, open a web browser. You may be prompted to register your computer on the network. To register, use your CU Login Name and IdentiKey password.
  6. Before using the Internet, it’s a good idea to clear your web browser’s cache. You should be connected to CU-Boulder’s network and can begin using any Internet application you choose, such as an e-mail program or a web browser.
