Pine E-mail Program—Configuring Pine for Color

ITS Help Documents >> ITS E-mail and Calendar Services Documentation >> ITS's Other E-mail Servers >> Pine E-mail Program >> Send and Receive Attachments

Overview

If you access Pine using a terminal application which is color-enabled (such as SSH), you can customize Pine to display in color.

To configure the color feature in Pine

1. Go to the (m)ain menu, (s)etup, and then type 'k' for (k)olors (the letter 'c' was already taken!).

2. At the top of the screen is the choice for 8 or 16-color display. Type * (asterisk) next to one to choose it.

NOTE: Although Pine can diplay in 16 colors, many terminal applications are limited to eight. You may want to try both and see which one works on your terminal.

3. Scroll down to the heading GENERAL COLORS and highlight the first color option and hit enter.

4. Change the background and foreground colors by highlighting a color choice and typing * (asterisk).

NOTE: If in step 2 above you chose 16 colors, you should now see 16 colors in each column, that is if 16-color display will work on your terminal program. Otherwise Pine may exhibit some strange behavior at this point. If so, go back to step 2 above, and type * for force-ansi-8color, then return to setting up individual colors.

5. Now you can design your own color scheme by setting each option individually in the list of GENERAL COLORS. When you finish each color setting, type (e)xit.

6. When you finish designing your entire color scheme, exit the color setup menu by typing (e)xit and (y)es to save changes.

7. Enjoy your colorful new look for Pine!
