How to Send Commands to Listproc

Every command you can issue to the list processor is accomplished in the same way.

To issue any command to the list processor, send an e-mail to listproc@lists.colorado.edu with no subject and nothing but the command in the message body.

Never send list commands to the list itself. If you send to yourlistname@lists.colorado.edu, your message will be sent to all of the subscribers.

For most commands, the list processor will reply to you letting you know if a command was completed successfully and, if not, what the error was. You will also receive an e-mail from the list processor containing a response to your requests for information.

Throughout this document, anything presented as word means you should substitute word with your particular information.  For example, in this line:

subscribe listname first lastname

You would substitute listname with the real name of the list you want to join and substitute first lastname with your first name and last name. Important: Do not actually italicize any commands you send to ListProc.

Commands sent to Listproc are not case sensitive. That is, it does not matter if you use upper or lower case letters.

Below is an example of the "lists" command being sent to Listproc via the CULink client.

For Outlook or other e-mail clients that have the option to send messages in HTML format, change the format to "Plain Text" before sending any command to Listproc. See the example below in which Chip Buffalo is subscribing to the list bungee.

Note the red arrow showing where you would change the message to "Plain Text" format in Outlook. For other email clients, contact the IT Service Center if you find you need help changing the format.
