Common List Commands

The most common commands are listed below. Remember, when you issue any of these commands that you need to address your e-mail message to listproc@lists.colorado.edu rather than to the name of the list.

Throughout this document, anything presented as word means you should substitute word with your particular information.  For example, in this line:

subscribe listname first lastname

You would substitute listname with the real name of the list you want to join and substitute first lastname with your first name and last name. Important: Do not actually italicize any commands you send to ListProc.

  • help  
    • Obtain information about list processing software requests
  • help topic
    • Obtain specific information on the selected topic
  • information listname 
    • Obtain information about the specific list
  • lists
    • Obtain a list of mailing lists that are served by this list processing software
  • recipients listname
    • Obtain a list of all people subscribed in the specified list
  • review listnam
    • Obtain the list settings as well as the current list of subscribers.
  • set listname  
    • Obtain a list of all current settings for the specified list
  • set listname option value
    • Change the option to the new value for that list. For example, if you want to interrupt your subscription to the bungee list while you are on vacation, you would send the following message: set bungee mail postpone
  • set listname mail ack
    • If you want to get your own postings back
  • set listame mail noack
    • If you do not want to get your own postings back
  • set listname mail digest
    • If you want to get a periodic digest of postings
  • statistics listname
    • Obtain a list of subscribers along with the number of messages each one has sent to the specified list.
  • subscribe listname firstname lastname
    • Subscribe to the list specified
  • unsubscribe listname
    • Remove yourself from the specified list
  • which
    • Obtain a list of mailing lists on this server to which you have subscribed
